I honestly did not know the answer to this question when I started the Red Cedar Writing Project Summer Institute. I knew that I was good at grammar, and I could write one mean classroom newsletter. However, I never sat down to write for the sake of writing.
Since I started this class, I have learned that writing can be done for a purpose, for enjoyment, for myself, and for others. Believe it or not, the most mind-blowing thing I learned is that writing is thinking. It is amazing how much I learned about myself and how I feel by simply writing down my thoughts and thinking through the keystrokes. I am so grateful for this realization, and I am excited to say "I AM A WRITER!"

Habits of Mind that the Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing believes are essential for substantive improvement in writing.
The purpose of this portfolio . . .
I created this site as a way to document my growth as a teacher, learner, writer, and leader while participating in the Red Cedar Writing Project Summer Institute. Since teachers always encourage students to set a purpose for reading, I am going to encourage you to think about the 8 Habits of Mind in the graphic above while you are looking at my portfolio. Also, be sure to click play on the creepy Avatar that resembles me. Like me, she has something important to say.
